something I've wondered

In both of my advertising classes we have analyzed the effectiveness of anti tobacco advertisements, like the Truth campaign. I do not support tobacco company's, but I have always thought it was strange how you see "don't smoke" ads targeted to teenagers, but you never see commercials about not drinking. There are many consequences associated with drinking at a young age, like brain and liver damage, but that is never mentioned. If you think about it, alcholism has a much more powerfully negative effect on your life at than smoking. If a friend or family member was an alcoholic and also smoked cigarettes, the first thing you would want to get control of is there unhealthy drinking habit, not necessarily smoking even though that is damaging as well. From what I have seen, smoking is not nearly as big of a problem as what it used to be, so why so much emphasis on something when there are bigger problems to tackle?
