a new look at karma

We are taught from the time we are young that, if you do good, good things will happen to you, and if you do bad, vice versa (the basic concept of karma). Everything happens for a reason, life is made simple in that way.

But what if bad things DO happen to good people.
How do you explain a good person getting into an accident with a drunk driver? Or being diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening illness? How can a world that only lets good happen to good people let those things happen?!

After reading the book, When Bad Things Happen to Good People, I learned to look at life in a more insightful way. There are some aspects of life that cannot be explained. Every day, completely undeserving people are placed to deal with very difficult situations. This concept is hard for many to grasp partly because we have been told for so long that everything happens for a reason, and if we are faced with a difficult hurdle we must have done something wrong at some time to deserve it. Once we learn that this is not true we can move forward and live without the constant weight of guilt on our shoulders.
